Self Evaluation A Journey of Life and Happiness

October 5th, 2008

Traders know everything about the matter of material goods, liabilities and inventories of their business. He or she knows what has been earned, the dangers of holding a fortune and what the advantages are. In order to come out even you must balance liabilities and assets. In fact, proper accounts will give you enough advantage to cover your material desires. At this instant, why would we not look at our minds and bodies that way? What business is more important that of living? If living is important, what is more important than being able to live joyfully? If so, you must look at yourself and recognize yourself for what you are, not what you were, or what you would like to be. To be happier, you must be aware of your assets and liabilities so that knowing them becomes power for you.

You will never have another body but the one you have. You relish it as we all do. But do you take care of it, do you know it, do you understand it, do you listen to it? You are a miraculous structure made not only of bones, muscle, nerves, fluids and organs, but also of soul, feelings, intelligence and dreams. As a result, every part of your body is dependent on the other.

Now go on an expedition of examination of your own body and mind. Know it. Run your thoughts through your body and put all of your worries, concerns and fears out in the open in one place where you can see them, admit them and defeat them. What worries you now, in ten years will be something insignificant that will be on a second plane in your life. The chances are that you are worrying about little things, while there are a thousand reasons to be happy. As you go through your body, try to know it, so your confidence grows and makes you proud. You must inspect your body in order to appreciate what you have been given and of what you are to take care. Make a physical inventory of your possessions and liabilities. Make up your mind, fairly and fearlessly, as to whether or not there are habits that need to be corrected.

You can improve and increase your efficiency as well as improve your look by taking care of little details. Do what every trader does for his business. Modify habits and admit weaknesses when you come to them. From the tips of your toes to the top of your head you must examine yourself objectively. Look at every part of yourself, feel them, think about them, accept them and love them. You are not to diagnose causes, but to consider conditions that might be affecting your life physically, mentally and spiritually. You are to decide if there is anything that should be diagnosed by a professional. Once habits have been established and a mental and physical treatment has been applied, happiness will come from the accomplishments achieved by body and mind operating as well organized team.

To conclude, as you feed your body with food, you should feed your mind and soul as well with positive thoughts and prayer. Now, go and glow bright like a star. Use the powers of the universe and grow as high as possible. Live a life of happiness, love and knowledge.

What Life is All About

August 26th, 2008

When we look at lives in any places in this world, we may come to the similar red line. Those lives consist of phases that take living creature from a step to a further one. Be it human or plants or animals, their lives are all the same. It’s a growth from youth to old then die.

As for human life, we grow from infants to a cute little baby, from teenager to adult and then old. In between the phases we are expected to live the life at the fullest. In other words, we spend the days with expectation of having improvement and development.

We learn, and are taught to learn every single step so that we become better and better. When things go on as we want them to be, we would feel content and happy. Knowing that we have achieved something and that we move on to a better situation. But sometimes, we have to deal with something that we wouldn’t want nor expect. Something that makes us down and sad. When such thing happens, we usually come to an unpleasant situation that often makes us not knowing what to do.

However, do we really ever notice that everything happens is only a scene that put us on a temporary condition?

Just picture this life as a journey

We understand that every trip has a final destination which takes us to a journey that passes many scenes of places. Suppose we are going to Rome from London by car. When we go through the way we may find that not all the road is good, and not all places we go by has beautiful view. Not to mention that we may get stuck in a traffic jam somewhere along the way. But of course we may find beautiful places that tempt us to stop by. All the things we see and find all through the way can give effect to our trip duration. They can enhance the speed, delay or even cancel the trip. It depends on us. Are we going to let ourselves get carried away by the temptation or get defeated by the hardship we find that we forget our final destination? Will we also let the obstacles take our time and focus that they cause delay to our trip?

Only WE know the answer, for only WE know the destination.

Therefore, don’t let good things that happen in our lives makes us blind to move on. Always be alert that things change. Get anticipated for the changes.

But if we face bad scenes, don’t let ourselves down for too long. Raise head up. See far ahead. Think of the final goal so that we can pull ourselves together to deal with the situation. Keep in mind that it was just one of the parts we surely go by.

So when we are fully aware that any kind of things may happen, we’ll have more self-control and we know that those things are lessons for us to be better. Coz even when we get struck in a hindrance, we’ll know that it was only something that makes ourselves improved. For the way we handle the situation will teach us to be more creative in thinking.

In other words, self-improvement can be gained either through happiness or sadness, through good or bad times, through ease or hardship. The main thing is, everything happens for a reason..a reason for our own goodness.

So, let’s keep on movinggo through all the way until we reach our own destination.

Do Over

August 22nd, 2008

One of the great cinematic moments I can think of is the scene in ‘City Slickers’ in which Billy Crystal’s character talks to his friend about how, when they were kids, if they were playing a game and something happened that they didn’t like, someone would yell, “Do over!” He then says, “That’s what this is. My life is a do-over.”

Previously, Crystal’s character had been a sullen, bored, depressed “working stiff.” He was turning forty, and although nothing in his life was particularly wrong, none of it was quite right. His wife and daughter loved him, and his job was adequate, but he felt no sense of purpose or meaning.

On his wife’s prompting, he takes a trip to a working ranch, where he and a few friends drive cattle across the Wyoming plains and, along the way, encounter hardships, challenges, and some very dangerous situations. He faces the challenges, commits to an outcome, and pays the price of success. In the end, he gets his life back. He regains a sense of purpose, enthusiasm, and energy. He falls in love with his life all over again. He gets to do it over.

There is nothing whatsoever stopping you from having your do-over. Nothing, that is, except the conviction that it can’t be done.

Your outer life need not change at all. In the movie, Billy Crystal’s character goes back to the same life he left behind. All that changes is his inner experience but that’s all that needs to change. When you change on the inside, everything around you changes as well.

For me, the journey has been remarkable: remarkably good and remarkably difficult. I’ve encountered an enormous amount of my own negativity and have walked down more blind alleys than I can count. I’ve made progress which I’ve quickly undone through pride or fear, and I’ve gotten stuck for what seemed like lifetimes in the quagmire of confusion. I’ve tried in vain to resolve the paradoxes that any thinking person is bound to face as he or she begins to ask questions.

Although they’re ultimately unsolvable, few of them really need to be solved. Part of the journey of a successful, intelligent person is the recognition that ambiguity is part of the game, and the ability to live with ambiguity is a prerequisite to contentment and happiness. Besides, as mentalist and philosopher Roderick Russell says, “Life isn’t a puzzle to be solved. It’s a mystery to be resolved.”

What I’m suggesting is that the road is not a straight one. Many believe that successful people got there with no effort or discouragement. That isn’t the case. Virtually everyone, no matter how successful, has faced despair and failure. You should expect that you will too.

That’s good news, though, because it’s probably not just the material rewards which you seek. You seek a better life. And part of a better life is the ability to tolerate, even celebrate adversity. When you shift your consciousness so that you’re able to welcome any experience that arises, you’ll reap rewards that you’ll feel on the inside much more deeply than any superficial pleasures available from gaining an external prize. I recommend that you embark on this journey of self-creation with an attitude of openness to whatever comes your way. By doing that, you’ll find it much easier to get back in the race whenever life puts up a hurdle, and you’ll have much more fun.

Take a mental inventory

Take an inventory of your life as it is right now. What works? What doesn’t work? How much of your discontent is generated by your outer circumstances? How much is just a feeling from within? Where would you like to see yourself a few years from now? Do you have a clear idea, or is it vague? Are you starting from scratch, ready to create a life from nothing? Or, are you stuck in a life you don’t like, ready for a do-over? Have you faced disappointment thus far? And, if not, are you willing to do so in the future if that’s what’s necessary to accomplish your ultimate goals? What do you perceive to be the primary factor holding you back? Is it an outer circumstance or an inner attitude? Is it a habit of not taking the necessary steps?

Throughout this process, your success will be proportional to your level of willingness to take responsibility for your life. To the extent that you place the focus of your problems and their solutions outside yourself, you will fail to see progress and will likely relapse into old, stuck ways. To the extent that you own your life, the good and the bad, the glowing and the repulsive, and that you fail to yield to the temptation to blame others for your misfortune, you will succeed and ultimately change the environment in which you live.

The journey is exciting and manifold. If you’re willing to make the effort, you will be rewarded. While I can’t promise you a life without pain or challenges, and while you’ll still have those days when things don’t seem so great, you can create your life exactly as you want it. That’s your birthright. Are you ready for it?
